The music was everywhere.
I grew up on the Southside of San Antonio. My babysitter listened to Tejano music, and as I got older, so did the families of my friends from school. It played in their houses and at the backyard parties we went to.
Those ’90s backyard parties.
Emilio Navaira is one of the names that always brings that time back. Back then it was the upbeat party songs I loved most. I still love those songs—and the ballads too.
My own kind of soundtrack.
My own family never shared my love for Spanish-language music. But the sounds I grew up hearing around the neighborhood stayed with me. Today I listen to Tejano, norteño, conjunto, banda, and plenty in between. I keep finding new bands and great accordion players, and this is where I share the music and experiences I enjoy.
